Aavolyn Type TY65 Inside Solid | | AAVOLYN TYPE 65The AAVOLYN TYPE 65 packing case assembly, commonly known as an “inside solid”, consists of a series of stepped cups and an end piece. The flange which secures the case in the stuffing box is normally part of the compressor and was used originally to hold a type of braided or soft packing in place. The TYPE 65 is an improvement over earlier designs because the individual cups can be reconditioned to return the groove width or depth to original specifications. Standard packing rings can be used. The cups are stepped to ensure proper alignment of individual cups. The TYPE 65 design can be utilized to convert older compressors from braided packing to mechanical packing styles without normally having to modify the stuffing box or redesign the packing case to extend it out into the distance piece. This style of case is limited to lower pressure applications such as single stage air compressors. | | AAVOLYN TYPE 65V / 265 The AAVOLYN TYPE 65V packing case assembly is used in service when the pressure being sealed is below atmospheric. The vacuum packing uses the standard TY65 packing case with the addition of AAVOLYN TY211 double tangent packing. The AAVOLYN TY265 step cup case is an upgrade to the TY65 with the addition of a flange. The flange becomes an integral part of the case to improve its per-formance as reciprocating compressors are put into ser-vice at higher pressures. back to top | | Type 65V-265 Packing Assembly |
Type TY275 Packing Assembly | | AAVOLYN TY275 PACKING ASSEMBLYThe AAVOLYN TY275 Step case was designed as pressures increased and more force was exerted on the piston rod by the packing rings. With the addition of more grooves of packing rings, more frictional heat was developed in the packing case area. Less area of the rod was ex-posed to the atmosphere in the distance piece due to longer packing cases. Lubrication was added in the sealing area to reduce this heat. In services other than air, many of the gases being sealed were offensive, such as ammonia, natural gas or hydrogen. A vent connection was added to remove any of the gas which was not sealed by the packing rings. The TY275 design incorporated vent and lube connections to the case. The lube connection allowed oil to be introduced into the packing case to cool the packing and remove heat from the sealing area. A vent connection, drilled and tapped in the packing case to remove any gas which passed the sealing rings was incorporated. Type TY255 Packing Assembly | | AAVOLYN TY255 PACKING ASSEMBLYThe AAVOLYN TY255 is the most widely used style of packing case for reciprocating compressors today. Pressures up to 2500 PSI can be sealed with a combination of grooves and packing designs. The TY255 met the increase in pressure and compressor performance requirements. Ground sealing surfaces between packing cups were required to limit leakage of gas in the packing case. Lubrication can now be extended down into the packing case to allow oil to be introduced to the rod after the first sealing groove. The TY255 incorporates the use of tie rods for alignment of the packing cups. AAVOLYN TY655 Fab Cub | | AAVOLYN TY655 FAB CUP DESIGNAAVOLYN engineers developed the fabricated cup design as the most efficient type of internal coolant design. The Type 655 consists of a fabricated coolant cup. The AAVOLYN design brings the coolant areas close to the bore of the case to allow maximum heat transfer. The size of the coolant areas are enlarged to provide a large surface for heat transfer. This design is used in all gas ser-vices and all discharge pressures. One of the value added features of the Type 655 is that the “O” ring sealing the coolant flow from cup to cup does not go around the rod. Hence, the rod does not have to be removed to replace them resulting in a major time saver. back to top | | AAVOLYN TY655 Fab Cup |
One Piece Piston Ring | | PISTON AND RIDER RINGSAAVOLYN TY410 One piece angle cut piston ring is utilized by itself or in combination on many standard air compressors….. Proper clearance, design and selection of ring material are critical to provide top quality performance and extended ring life. AAVOLYN has available a complete line of piston rings, bull rings, wiper rings and rod packing for all standard JOY air compressors. Packing Cup | | COMPRESSOR ROD PACKINGThe AAVOLYN TY210 design of air compressor rod packing is the most commonly used today in standard air compressors. The TY210 consists of a radial cut ring pinned to a tangent cut ring to create a sealing unit. For non-lube service, our AVA45 filled PTFE l (bronze-filled) is widely used with long lasting results. For lubricated air service, compressor rod packing can be furnished in bronze, cast iron or PTFE. Contact your AAVOLYN sales representative for assistance in determining the correct material and style for your air application. Each rod seal is manufactured from quality materials and incorporates AAVOLYN special features to maximize performance. back to top | | AAVOLYN KIT3 |
TY313 WIPER SET AAVOLYN | | AIR COMPRESSOR WIPER PACKINGThe AAVOLYN TY313/ TY314 oil wiper ring is used in air compressors to prevent oil from the crankcase traveling along the piston rod and into the pressure packing. This type of wiper consists of an individual oil seal manufactured tangent to the rod with no clearance at the bore. Each ring is an independent seal with a deep wiping edge and wide oil groove at the I.D. The oil groove acts as a second wiping edge and uses drilled holes to allow the wiped oil to drain away from the rod. AAVOLYN uses a tapered wiping edge on the face of the ring to more effectively strip the oil coating from the piston rod. The AAVOLYN TY320 radial oil scraper ring is designed to be used pinned in sets as a wiper assembly. The 320 design is installed with the wiping edge toward the oil source to provide maximum oil removal. back to top | | TY320 WIPER SET AAVOLYN |
Air Compressor Unloaded Piston Rings | | PLANT AIR SERVICEThe reciprocating compressor has for many years been the major compressor for plant air use, in both lube and non-lube service. During the past decade, rotary and screw designs have replaced it as the main type of equipment because of their initial cost and the availability of quality parts and service for the reciprocating compressor. AAVOLYN engineers have developed a line of high quality re-placement parts to increase the service life of the reciprocating compressor and reduce maintenance costs. Improved materials and designs in piston rings and packing seals combined with equipment upgrades allow the compressor operator to take advantage of the energy savings of the reciprocating compressor while reducing equipment downtime and operating costs. AAVOLYN conversion kits Those reciprocating compressors that still use braided packing in their stuffing boxes are obsolete in today’s world. They are subject to the problems of continued packing adjustment and piston rod wear. Conversion kits to replace this braided design with the more effective mechanical packing are available from AAVOLYN. These kits require no compressor modification and can be installed rapidly. Cost savings are evident in the first year of operation. Kits are available for the following compressors and can be designed for any compressor using braided packing:- Chicago Pneumatic T series
- Joy WG series
- Ingersoll Rand ES, XRE, PRE
- Worthington HB series
